The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), covers the first years of your child's development, from birth to the end of their first year in school. The emphasis is on learning through play, in a safe and secure environment.

We have two classes in Reception: Bumblebees and Ladybirds. The teachers work together to plan and offer interesting and fun activities for the children. Every child is given the support and opportunity to learn and develop at their own pace.

Reception children are very much a part of our school community. They take part in school assemblies, concerts and fun days. Through the curriculum they learn to work together, share ideas, equipment and to build good relationships with other children and adults.

PE - We have 2 PE lessons per week. Please ensure your child comes to school dressed in PE kit on their PE days.

Autumn Term 1

Autumn Term 1 is an exciting and important time as children begin their journey at school. Our first priority is to ensure that every child feels happy, safe and secure in their new environment. We take time to build positive relationships, establish familiar routines and help children develop a sense of belonging within their new school community.

During the first few weeks, children are supported to settle into their new classrooms and become familiar with the daily routines and expectations of school. Through carefully planned activities and play opportunities, children learn how to explore the environment, choose resources, work alongside others and develop their independence.

Our curriculum is delivered through a balance of adult-led learning, carefully planned continuous provision and child-initiated play. Children are encouraged to explore, investigate, create and follow their own interests, while skilled adults observe, interact and extend learning through meaningful conversations and carefully planned experiences.

In Phonics, children begin to develop a love of sounds, words and stories. Through engaging and systematic teaching, they develop their listening skills, learn to recognise and hear different sounds and begin their journey towards becoming confident readers and writers.

Early Mathematics is woven throughout the children's daily experiences. Through songs, stories, practical activities and play, children begin to develop their understanding of number, pattern, shape, space and measure.

Throughout Autumn Term 1, we place a strong emphasis on developing children's Communication and Language, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Physical Development. These important foundations support children to build friendships, express their needs and ideas, develop confidence and independence, and engage successfully in all areas of learning.

Our aim is for every child to make a happy and confident start to school, developing a love of learning, a sense of curiosity and the confidence to explore the world around them.
