Spring 1
In English this term, we are using the short film ‘The Ocean Maker’ directed by Lucas Martell. After the seas have disappeared, a courageous young female pilot fights against vicious sky pirates for control of the last remaining source of water: the clouds. We shall be using the film as stimulus for us to write a narrative based on the action. The children will use relative clauses for extra detail, maintain consistent past tense and continue to add extra information using expanded noun phrases. After this, the children will look at the rain making machine and think about how it works and explain the process of usage. Using adverbs of possibility, headings and sub-headings and paragraphs will help to enhance their writing.
In maths, we shall be looking at our first unit of fractions, focusing on find equivalent, turning improper fractions to mixed and visa-versa, comparing, ordering, adding and subtracting. Later in the term, we shall switch to decimals and percentages, again linking them both to equivalent fractions.
In science, we are looking at the different forces. We shall investigating gravity, friction, air and water resistance and buoyancy.
