Autumn 2
In English this term, we are using the story ‘Varmints’ written by Helen Ward. It is the story of one small creature's struggle to preserve a world in danger of being lost forever through recklessness and indifference. The book will be used to help us retell the story from the point of view of one of the creatures. We shall develop our grammar skills, when focusing on adverbs for possibility, inverted commas and moving subordinate clauses for effect. Then we will switch to our Faction unit, where will look at writing Non-Chronological reports using the Varmints as a stimulus.
In maths we shall be looking at our first unit of multiplication and division, focusing on prime, square and cube numbers as well as multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. Later in the term, we shall switch the first of our fractions unit, where we will look at finding equivalent fractions, ordering and comparing and converting from mixed to improper.
In science, we are looking at the properties of materials. We shall be looking at processes such as filtering, sieving and dissolving and that some processes are either reversible or irreversible.
Please have a look at the Knowledge Organisers in the Curriculum Documents tab above to find out more about our learning this term.
