Useful Information
Homework - Homework will be given out on a Friday and is due in the following Thursday. Homework in Year 4 will be Spellings and Times tables.
Multiplication tables check - Year 4 will have a multiplication tables check in June 2026. This will test them on their recall of multiplication facts up to 12 x 12. They will have 25 questions and will have 6 seconds to answer each one on a laptop. Please use TTTS as much as you can at home to encourage recall of multiplication facts.
Reading - Please record reading at home in reading records. Reading records will be checked daily. Every class competes to read to their teacher's height - a great incentive for a class treat once this height has been reached.

Summer Term 2

In English this term, we are using the book Tuesday by David Wiesner. The story contains only six words and three points that determine the time of the action. The whole story is narrated by colorful pictures of frogs on their lily pads. The story begins on "Tuesday evening, around eight". A group of frogs start their journey in some wetlands, then fly to the nearest town. They levitate past birds that sit on the electric wires, pausing at the kitchen window of a man eating his sandwich. The frogs pass through someone's backyard. They enter the house where an old lady sleeps in front of her television. The squadron of frogs appropriate her remote control and stare avidly at the screen. At "4:38 a.m.", they encounter a dog who tries to catch one of the frogs, but is then chased by a large group of them. At dawn, the frogs return to the pond and their normal life of resting on lily pads and swimming. Back in the city, people investigate traces left by the frogs. The final pages of the book show "next Tuesday" around eight in the evening, with pigs hovering above the roof of a farm building. Using this ending, we will innovate the story and come up with another animal that can cause havoc across the town!
In Maths, we will begin the term by having a weeks focus on times tables, ready for the national MTC. After this, we will study a unit of time, progressing to shape, coordinates and statistics.
In Science, we will consolidate all of our knowledge learnt his year by studying a unit called 'Making Connections'.
Geography will consist of comparing the physical and human features of both London and Paris. Learning this will link greatly with our DT, where we will make a typical French biscuit.
