Useful Information
Homework - Homework will be given out on a Friday and due in on the following Wednesday. Homework in Year 3 is Spellings and times tables which are tested on a Thursday. All the children have been given a login sheet for Times Tables Rock Stars and Reading Eggs which they can use to practise times tables facts and reading skills at home. If you cannot find your login sheet, please contact your class teacher who can sort out a copy to keep at home.
Reading - Children are expected to read at least 5 times a week at home. Please record reading at home in reading records. Reading records will be checked daily, and a record kept of how many times children have read at home. Children earn housepoints for the number of times that they read and can also work towards a class treat as part of our current reading challenge.
PE - We have 2 PE lessons per week - 1 outdoor and 1 indoor. Please come into school wearing PE on your class PE day.

Pandas - Wednesday and Thursday

Below is information about our learning this term as well as links to useful websites to support learning at home.
Sring Term 1 - Take One Artist
Our focus for Spring 1 has a focus on a famous artist and our art lessohs will including looking at the work of Henri Matisse.
In English lessons, we will explore the story 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes. During our fiction writing sequence we will look at the structure of the 1st chapter of the story and box up the main ideas to help us understand the structure of the text. In grammar sessions, we will recap using expanded noun phrases, explore how to use the present perfect form of verbs and then explore using if, when because as subordinate conjunctions before applying them to our own writing. We will write the opening sequel about a different iron person. We will then explore writing a newspaper report for our non-fiction sequence. We will explore the key features of writing a newspaper report and link it to the story by a report about the arrival of the Iron Man. In spelling sessions, we will focus on using phonics and spelling patterns to spell familiar consonant sounds before exploring words from the Year 3/4 word list. We will also focus on ensuring that our handwriting is joined and legible.
In Maths, we will be working on our multiplication & divison, money and fractions skills. We will focusing on our 3x, 4x and 8s table to build our fluency in recalling facts from these multiplication tables.
In Science, we will be exploring Animals including Humans. We will be exploring the human skeleton and muscles and looking at their functions. We will also be investigating what makes a healthy diet and sorting food into the different food groups. Wider Curriculum Work
Our Geograpgy topic this term is coasts and exploring they key coastal features. We will find out how they are formed and the effects of erosion on our coastlines.
Our French we will be developing our vocabulary by looking aspects including; food and how to speak about our family and friends. In PE will be focussing on Basketball and Gymnastics and Fitness. In Art, we will be linking our learning to our featured artist, Henri Matisse, and will be exploring his artwork using the 'Show me what you see' technique. We will also be exploring how shape and colour to simply elements of artwork inspired by Matisse's cut-outs. Our learning in RE will explore Hinduism and why the want to collect good Karma. In Music lessons we will be focussing on cuban music and exploring they rhythms by learning some salsa.
