Summer Term 2 - Take One Culture
Our focus for Summer Term 2 has a geographical theme and is focussed on exploring the fascinating country of India. We will link as much of our learning as we can with our termly theme.
In English lessons, we will explore the story 'Cloud Tea Monkeys' by Elspeth Graham and Mal Peet during our fiction writing sequence. We will look at the structure of the story and box up the main ideas to help us understand the structure of the text. In grammar sessions, we will recap using inverted commas for speech, explore how to use the present perfect tense and then explore using coordinating and subordinate conjunctions before applying them to our own wriitng. We will invent our own characters and write an innovated story set in India. We will then explore persuasive writing in our Faction writing sequence. We will explore the key features of persuasive writing and link it to the story by writing persuasive posters to buy Cloud Tea. In spelling sessions, we will focus on using phonics and spelling patterns to spell familiar consonant sounds before exploring words from the Year 3/4 word list. We will also focus on ensuring that our handwriting is joined and legible.
In Maths, we explore time, statistics and geometry. We will continue to focus on our 3x, 4x and 8s table to build our fluency in recalling facts from these multiplication tables.
In Science, we will be exploring Plants. We will learn what each part of a plant does and explore what a plant needs to grow healthy. Look at the knowledge organiser in the Curriculum Documents tab above for more information about our Science learning.
