Summer Term 1 - Take One Book
Our focus text in English this term is ‘The Wolves in the Wall’ by Neil Gaiman. We will explore using adverbs of manner and inverted commas in our story writing. We will then explore non-chronological reports, writing our own non-chronological report about our own wall animal using precise noun phrases.
We will continue to focus on our sentence level work, focussing on writing different sentence types and using words for effect. We will look at various spelling rules and patterns including vowel sounds, prefixes and suffixes.
We will continue to encourage the children to join their letters together and use a consistent letter size.

In Maths we will continue to deepen our understanding of fractions through looking at fractions of amounts using bar models to help us. We will also explore adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator.
Then we will look at comparing, adding and subtracting mass and capacity.
We also solve word problems using these measures. We will continue to work on our multiplication and division facts for the 3s, 4s and 8s.
In Science, we will look at plants, exploring how reproduce and what they need to grow.
Wider Curriculum Work
Our History topic this term is Ancient Egypt. We will use primary and secondary sources to find out about everyday life in Ancient Egypt. The we will explore who did build the pyramids and find out about the discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb.
Our French will be learning how to talk about our friends and family, as well as our pets. We will also look at spelling our names.
In PE will be focussing on orienteering and rounders.
Our learning in RE will explore what a kingdom is and the notion that Jesus is a king. The key question we are looking at is 'what do Christians mean when they talk about the Kingdom of God?’
In Music lessons we will be looking at patterns in music and explore a variety of ways that music is composed .
