Autumn Term 2 - Take One Scientist
Our focus for Autumn 2 has a scientific theme and our science learning will including looking at the work of Michael Faraday.
In English lessons, we will explore the story 'Stone Age Boy' by Satoshi Kitamura during our fiction writing sequence. We will look at the structure of the story and box up the main ideas to help us understand the structure of the text. In grammar sessions, we will recap commas in a list, explore how to use adverbs for manner and then explore using inverted commas for speech before applying them to our own writing. We will invent our own characters and write an innovated story set in the Stone Age. We will then explore writing instructions in our non-fiction sequence, using 'How to Wash A Woolly Mammoth' by Michelle Robinson and Kate Hindley. We will explore the key features of writing a set of instructions and link it to the story by writing instructions for how to wash our own Stone Age creature. In spelling sessions, we will focus on using phonics and spelling patterns to spell familiar consonant sounds before exploring words from the Year 3/4 word list. We will also focus on ensuring that our handwriting is joined and legible.
